Flanders: home to a vibrant biotechnology research and development community
The Flemish Institute of Biotechnology (VIB) - a non-profit research institute in the life sciences – supports innovative research in the area of human, industrial and plant biotechnology. The Ghent Bio-Energy Valley (GBEV) is a European initiative geared towards developing a greener, more sustainable economy and the largest cluster of bio-refineries in Europe. The VIB unites about 1200 scientists across 72 research groups in a single institute. The VIB also translates innovative research into new social and industrial applications, ultimately leading to an enhanced quality of life for the society (add link).
