Unido's Mandate

UNIDO work towards improving living conditions in the world's poorest countries (UNIDO in Brief) and considers the Millennium Development Goals as the overarching framework for collective action. UNIDO believes that a competitive and environmentally sustainable industry plays a crucial role in accelerating economic growth, thereby reducing poverty and helping to achieve the MDGs. UNIDO focuses on three thematic areas: 

• Poverty reduction through productive activities
• Trade capacity building
• Environment and energy

The IIBN aspires to contribute to the thematic areas on poverty reduction and environment and energy by utilizing and sharing latest advances in agro-industrial biotechnology and life sciences in general.
